The educational philosophy at Highland Free School is based upon the fact that children are naturally inquisitive and excited by learning. Our goal is to keep that inquisitiveness alive. When we first opened our doors as a private school, we were embarking on an educational experiment to provide a unique learning environment for parents and students looking for an alternative to public schools. Our non-profit school was founded upon educational principles that were, at the time, fresh and innovative. Concepts such as the “open classroom,” where students no longer had to sit in straight rows of desks, and “student-based curriculum” that eliminated standard textbooks in favor of educational programs based on a student’s individual readiness and interests. We involved students and thier parents and tried to build a school community that would integrate the child’s school life and family life. Our school is a ministry of the Church and has served children of all backgrounds within the Tucson community since 1952. Faith Lutheran School has a long tradition of providing a quality Christian based education in a safe and nurturing environment. Our motto, “Learning in Love, Growing in Christ,” truly exemplifies our teachers’ approach to working with students. Small classes, with an average 10 to 1 pupil teacher ratio, also make it possible for teachers to give students individual direction. Academically, most of our students exceed the average national norms. Equally important, they are taught social skills based on respect and Christian ethics. Our programs include kindergarten through grade 8. St. Michael's Parish Day School Founded in 1958, St. Michael’s Parish Day School offers students in Kindergarten through eighth grade a dynamic and safe environment in which to learn and grow. For five decades, the school has provided an exceptional liberal arts curriculum, which includes rigorous academics as well as athletics, the arts, and spiritual development. We strive to nurture the whole child—mind, body, and heart. Nestled in a quaint neighborhood on seven landscaped acres, The Abbie Loveland Tuller School has been educating children since 1955. We take great pride in providing a Christian education that is inclusive of many diverse children with a wide range of developmental needs. A unique interdisciplinary teaching method combined with small class sizes and highly qualified teachers allows students to progress at their own rate in small groups of comrades, on their own, or with special attention. Children who may underachieve as well as gifted and accelerated students excel in our unique family environment. Graduates of Tuller School walk away prepared for high school and with a strong sense of community, diversity, academic excellence, and respect. At Tuller School, we prepare your child for a successful future. St. Gregory College Preparatory Since 1980, St. Gregory has offered college-bound students an exemplary education. A challenging curriculum, small classes, dedicated and committed teachers, and state-of-the-art facilities create an environment where students mature both intellectually and personally. Virtually all of our graduates continue their studies in colleges and universities of their choice. You will find St. Gregory graduates at Columbia and Dartmouth, the University of Michigan and the University of Arizona Honors Program, Yale and Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, Bard, Johns Hopkins and other fine schools across the United States. St. Gregory is the only school in southern Arizona accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
